Spectral Broadening of Ultrashort Optical Pulses in Nonlinear Photonic Crystal Fiber

A variety of nonlinear effects such as self – phase modulation (SPM) lead to spectral broadening of optical pulses. In the case of intense ultrashort pulses, when SPM is accompanied by other nonlinear processes such as stimulated Raman scattering and four-wave mixing, it leads to an extreme spectral broadening referred to as supercontinuum. In this paper, we demonstrate the effects of various nonlinear phenomena on broadening of ultrashort optical pulses when pumped into a nonlinear photonic crystal fiber. We present the simulation results of the propagation of ultrashort pulses into a single – mode photonic crystal fiber.
